Welcome to the new site!

Why is it the some of the most ardent supporters of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are the very men and women who have actually been and fought there?

With this question in mind I thought about starting this website.  Many of you have come to know me from my previous website www.boredsoldier.blogspot.com, but for those of you who are visiting me for the first time welcome.

My name is T.F. Boggs and I am a sergeant in the United States Army Reserves and am currently in the States after finishing up my second yearlong tour in Iraq last November. Throughout my second tour I kept a blog at www.boredsoldier.blogspot.com and came to realize the need for the American public to hear the truth about what is really going on in Iraq. Ever since I returned home I have been reminded of this fact day in and day out as I encounter people from both sides of the political spectrum who don’t have the slightest clue what is really going on in the Middle East. As I try to explain why they don’t need to be entirely discouraged about the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan I wish there was some place I could point them to where they could find out what is really going on. We all know (at least I hope) that it is near impossible to glean the truth from the MSM when it comes to reporting on Iraq and Afghanistan. Whether this is the fault of the reporters or of the higher ups doesn’t really concern me. What does concern me is that a biased media is misleading the world at large. As a result people form their opinions about America and its military based off of the opinions of those who aren’t qualified to discuss military matters.

I don’t pretend to have all the answers, or even be anywhere near the best source for news about the war, but I am a piece of the puzzle. My intentions with this website are to share my opinions about the war (and all things related), and point people in the right direction to where they can find other sources that will give them a better understanding of what exactly is going on in the Middle East. Along the way I am sure I’ll deviate from my original intentions but that is to be expected.

The blog is titled Vox Veterana, which as you probably already know is latin for ‘The Voice of Veterans’ or ‘The Veteran Voice.’ My hope is to have several other GWOT (Global War On Terrorism) veterans contribute from time to time so people can get a variety of viewpoints. The purpose is not to exclude non-VFWs, but to give veterans a forum where their voices can be heard. I know we have a lot to say and since the MSM doesn’t want to hear from us we’ll have to make our impact with the New Media.

As of now the contributors to this site are myself, and Sig of http://www.sigspace.net/blog. We’ll see if we can get some other vets to contribute as well in the future, but for the time being you will just have to deal with us. So tell your family, friends, and any one else who may have questions about the military and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in general. Feel free to contact either of us with any questions you may have.

Having said that lets see if we can get the truth out there.

Congrats on the new site!
What you are planning to do is important - thank you!

The second most ardent group of supporters are those of us who know several people who are or have been there. I have always chosen to believe what they are telling me over the media.

Love your site! Have it as a favorite and have sent it to my family. My nephews have served in Iraq, one in the Army, he is home safe right now. The other is in the Marines and is still over in Iraq for at least 6 more months. I apprecite your insight and just remember there are alot of us who feel the same way as you, except we don't have the experience of serving. May God Bless you and all the young men and women who are serving our great country! The men and women who are serving are the best of what this country has...Again God Bless you all.

Will you allow postings from a vet who loves our country but is quite against our current mission and way of doing business? If you're open to other opinions I may be up for doing a few "guest posts."

This may sound bad but as far as the people who I will allow to post here are people who I have become familiar with and know to some extent. Not that I am against other viewpoints but for the most part I am in support of this war and do not want to help in spreading ideas that are far from mine.

Here's a free idea for Liberal Vet. He can start his own site and call it Chicken Vox. Hi everyone. No, I'm not dead. Just hiding out in an undisclosed location after having my super secret squirrel deep cover blown by Bob Novak and Scooter Libby. Actually, I've got no good excuse for my extended hiatus. Just shamming out and loving every minute of it. But like MacArthur, I too shall return. (But not to the Philippines). Okay, back to my cave now. Cheers!

I remember hearing you on Hugh Hewitt last year - I am looking forward to some regular postings of a similar caliber now that you are up and running (you are the same TF Boggs, right?). Great site and design - who did it? Did you design it yourself? What if I want to set one up myself - anybody you would recommend to help me do it?

Yeah this is the same TF Boggs that was on Hewitt's show last year. I am thinking about posting the audio here so those who haven't heard it can listen if they find themselves bored enough.

As far as site design goes my brother did the design and a friend of mine put the site together. Sorry I probably can't reccomend either of them as they both do other things besides site design. I guess I got lucky.

I have pretty much given up on listening to MSM and look forward to learning of your insights. I followed the link from Badgers Forward after reading the intro of this first posting.

My opinion to your question posed:
" Why is it the some of the most ardent supporters of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are the very men and women who have actually been and fought there?"

I believe that it is because those in the military believe in a cause larger than themselves. You folks risk everything for the benefit of your fellow soldiers, our country, and those for whom you fight to protect. It is in essence, what is inside of you. Your character!

My thank you`s and appreciations are hardly sufficient for the gratitude that I feel toward each of you, past and present, for the strength of conviction you demonstrate that has allowed the citizens of this country to live in freedom. Our country may not be perfect but I know that we have a large majority of people that do strive to make life better for our fellow man. Of which you are one of these people.

God Bless You Sir,

Alpha

You`re intentions are commendable and honorable. I`m a member of all 3 of the major Vet groups and see a decided difference, none of them can decide what a vet is. If we were to get more participation from Desert Storm Vets to Joe Snuffy back from his first tour in Iraq things would be swinging slightly in our favor. I didn`t join any of them when I got back from Desert Storm, I joined the VFW by accident( no I`m fully qualified) my union was renting the VFW hall after I returned from Iraq (the second time) and the Commander`s wife happened to be the bartender, and the rest is history. The biggest problem,THAT I SEE, is the 3 major vet organizations are still stuck in their war(Viet Nam), the Korean war vets are on their way to their final reward, WWII vets are at their final reward( one step to the left and one step back). We are the largest group of veterans and fail to realize that these groups have the congressional ear/lobbyists. What do we want?? Can we take control of our destiny or sit and wait like, unfortunately our Viet Nam Brothers did? I don`t want to hear 20 years from now that something I did in my past has had an ill effect on my health. What would I ask of you, just get the membership up, because without membership YOU have no voice. I`m not a recruiter for the VFW I`m a Chaplain, and for a small out of the way post. Join any of them, hell I don`t care but join to have a forum to present your opinion/beliefs, get your battle buddy to join so you can gather forces to present all of your problems. Sooner or later WE are going to be the guiding force with the VETERANS of FOREIGN WARS, THE AMERICAN LEGION and THE AMERICAN VETERANS, sooner would save some of our newer brethern as much heartache as we have all felt. I`ve said my peace, think me insane or just slightly touched I don`t care.

Question and suggestion: I have seen major network news sources post weekly death-lists of U.S. soldiers KIA, accompanied by cumulative tallies since the beginning of the Iraq War. Is there a place to which one can go to put these data in perspective, such as a place on line where there is a daily/weekly/monthly (pick one) tally of the casualties in Iraq from the beginning PARALELLED by corresponding lists of similar casualty lists calibrated on the same chronological scale for WWII, the Civil War, the Vietnam War, the Korean War? It might even be appropriate to have another parallel column - again on the same chronological scale - listing deaths associated with alcohol abuse/ homicides in the US / traffic accidents and the like (pick your favorite pastime). Is there such a place already on line? If not, you may want to consider providing such data which should be readily available - it would make your site a frequent and handy reference for persuading others that there are some things worth dying for and the number of deaths in this war is hardly comparable either to earlier conflicts or the fallout from daily life in America.

Have you seen the following, an excerpt from July 13 on http://corner.nationalreview.com?

"This is a call to action. We are asking every Iraq and Afghanistan veteran who believes in supporting the mission—and defeating America`s enemies—to converge on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC on Tuesday, July 17. It`s time the fighters in this war tell their representatives—face to face-that now is no time to betray the mission."
